SAIE’s Vision – A dynamic culture of entrepreneurship in South Africa that promotes entrepreneurial behaviour and the creation of jobs

SAIE’s Mission – To achieve its vision of a dynamic culture of entrepreneurship in South Africa by developing programmes and methodologies that are underpinned by key entrepreneurial drivers and to ensure that they are effectively delivered so that participants are motivated by these drivers and skilled in the tools required to start or improve businesses in SAIE’s chosen sectors

What We Do – We co-ordinate key partners, deliver quality training and project manage programmes that unlock entrepreneurial mindsets and potential in the critical sectors of education, agriculture, information technology and (new venture creation learnership programme) enterprise development, such that that all participants are driven by an entrepreneurial attitude; they have a productive mindset; and they are skilled to be able to establish or improve their business.

For the past 20 years, South African Institute for Entrepreneurship (SAIE) has been attempting to fight the rising unemployment and poverty rate in the country by providing entrepreneurially-focused initiatives. The main focus of the organisation is to unlock the true potential of upcoming entrepreneurs by utilising original, creative methodologies and trains teachers co-operatives and community-based organisations to convey business skills uncover entrepreneurship qualities and ensure sustainable economic development and wealth creation.

New Venture Creation Learnership Programme – One of the recently established programmes by the institute is the New Venture Creation Learning Programme. This leadership programme is a year long, covering eight entrepreneurial and business skills modules including business environment and marketing; business planning; financial management and planning; business strategy and operation; business ideas generator and human resource issues; business roles; management skills; leadership and communications; entrepreneurship, performance and careers. Each of these modules takes on month to complete – learners attend one week of training, and spend three weeks working in their business as well as preparing the assignments for the current module. The NVC is a Service Seta accredited programme, registered at NQF level 4.

Workplace activities include running practical businesses and completing assignments, post which learners are expected to generate business ideas, conduct research and implement the ideas they find most viable. Each learner is expected to run and sustain the business for the entire leadership period. Learners’ business are monitored and mentored on regular basis. Competition of each module is followed by an assessment and moderation conducted by the SAIE qualified staff.

The academy has now been operational for three months, since August 2015, and there are currently about 70 learners receiving entrepreneurship mindset and business skills training. Occasionally, motivational speakers are invited by the institute to address the NVC learners. So far, speakers such as Garreth Bloor from the Mayoral Committee and Nompikazi Matjila, CSI & Relations Manager at Cipla, and many others have paid a visit to the institute to address the learners on the importance and impact of entrepreneurship.
